The latest runic inscription from Ukraine.
The image above was reproduced from a recent lecture presented by Prof. Dr. Andras Rona-Tas at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest for the academy's "Celebration of Hungarian Science" series (Nov. 26, 2016 and uploaded Dec. 19, 2016 by the MTA) . Prof. Emeritus Rona-Tas presented it as a new, undeciphered inscription, which was found recently (= several years ago) about 200 km southeast of Poltava in southeastern Ukraine. It appears to be an inscription composed of a mixture of younger and elder Futhark runes. It should probably be read in one of the Germanic languages related to the Varangians (eastern European Vikings), circa 8th or 9th Century AD. It is mostly written in Younger Futhark, but there are several vestiges of the Elder Futhark present in the inscription. It is undoubtedly a major find, and I believe Prof. Rona-Tas mentioned that it was the subject of a study performed by specialists. He did not mention details of the study nor did he mention the name of the journal in which the study was published. He mentioned that a second relic containing a runic inscription was found just last year (circa 2015) during the plowing of a field 80 km north of Donetsk, Ukraine, but did not provide a picture or any details.
